SUSTAINABILITY

We’re a small, independent cosmetics brand doing our best to be kind to both people and the planet. Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s part of how we work, from ingredients to shipping.

We're still learning, still improving but here’s how we’re making beauty better, one step at a time.

Biodegradable ingredients

Responsibly sourced, cruelty-free, and eco-conscious.

Low-impact packaging

Recyclable, reusable, or compostable wherever possible.

Carbon-conscious operations

Reducing emissions across every part of our process. We aim not only for carbon transparency and net-zero emissions but to actively improve the environment, especially our rivers.

How We Measure Our Impact

We use the internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol, breaking emissions down into three scopes.

Native Bush Canopy

Scope 1: Direct Emissions

Sources we directly control.

Actions we've taken:

To reduce these, our workspace is powered by rooftop solar panels. We use low-emission heat pumps for heating, and all transport is done using either fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Scope 2: Indirect Emissions from Energy

From purchased energy like electricity

Actions we've taken:

We’ve committed to using 100% renewable electricity, either from our own solar power or via Meridian Energy. All our lighting is energy-efficient LED to further reduce consumption

Scope 3: All Other Indirect Emissions

From supply chain, packaging, and more.

Actions we've taken:

We prioritise sustainable, locally sourced ingredients including hydrolysed keratin from New Zealand wool and avoid non-biodegradable chemicals like nitrocellulose. Our formulas rinse clean, making recycling easier. Packaging is kept minimal and plastic-free, using recyclable pots and bottles, compostable mailers, biodegradable tape, and cardboard wrap. While the current bottle brush isn't recyclable, we're working on a refill system to reduce waste. We also keep business travel low, walking to nearby meetings or connecting online. Shipping is our biggest emissions source, and we're actively working on lower-impact solutions.

Big Vision, Real Goals.

As we grow, we’re committed to keeping our environmental impact front of mind. One of our key goals is achieving carbon neutrality, with emissions tracked and measured annually using GreenHalo. This allows us to set clear, transparent targets and be accountable as we scale.

We’re also working on a refill system to reduce waste from single-use components like our bottle brushes and caps. Making repeat-use packaging part of our offering is a natural next step in our sustainability journey.

And finally, we’re deeply committed to giving back to the environment, especially here in Aotearoa. Once we reach 50,000+ annual global sales, we’ll donate more than half of our annual profits to support research into restoring New Zealand rivers. This includes combatting Didymo geminata, an invasive alga (often called “rock snot”) that’s choking our once-pristine waterways. It’s a big goal but one worth striving for.
